Inside Out - Debra

This 21 October, wear your clothes inside out and stand with the EB community

Even the seams in a baby’s clothes can cause painful blisters for someone with EB, because any friction damages their fragile skin. That’s why so many people living with EB wear their clothes inside out, just to get through the day without pain.

This Inside Out Day, we’re asking you to do the same, on purpose, for one day, and fundraise while you do it. Whether you take part with your school, your club, your team or on your own, every fundraising page helps us ease the pain of EB now and get closer to a cure.

Setting up your page takes two minutes. You don’t need a target, an event or a plan sorted before you start, just register and the rest follows.

Take part in Inside Out and get a chance to meet Johnny Sexton

Our captain is wearing his t-shirt inside out this year

Johnny Sexton, Debra celebrtiy ambassador and rugby legend, is turning his own t-shirt inside out for Inside Out Day, standing with the same community he’s supported for years. He’s asked to meet the people who make that stand possible, the ones raising the funds, wearing the t-shirts, and making sure EB doesn’t go unseen.

Raise €100 on your own, or €250 as a school or group, and you’ll be eligible to enter our free draw for a chance to meet him. Win, and you’ll spend 30 minutes with Johnny in Dublin, get a photo together, and take home your Inside Out t-shirt signed by the man himself. Schools and groups who win can bring five people along to share the moment.

Entry is free, it costs nothing beyond reaching your target, and it doesn’t happen automatically. Once you’ve hit your target, look out for how to enter, it only takes a minute.

Ways to make it your own

However you want to take part, there’s a way to make Inside Out Day work for you.

If you’re doing it with others, turn it into an event. Run an inside-out dress-down day at work or school, hold a bake sale in your break room, get your GAA club or team to line out in their kit inside out for a match, or set your class or department a shared target and watch it climb together.

Taking it on by yourself works just as well. Wear your clothes inside out for the day and tell people why when they ask. Set a personal target and ask five friends to sponsor you. Challenge someone to match your total. Post your before and after on social media with #InsideOutEB and let your page do the asking for you.

Why your fundraising matters?

Debra is the only charity in Ireland working alongside people living with EB, and honestly, we couldn’t do any of it without fundraising like yours. It pays for the grants, the specialist nursing care and the quiet, ongoing support families lean on when things get hard. It keeps our research moving, edging us closer to treatments that ease pain now and, one day, a cure.

It means something beyond the money too. Every page you set up tells someone living with EB that they’re not facing this on their own, and that adds up to a community that’s still there long after 21 October is over.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Inside Out?

Inside Out is Debra’s national awareness and fundraising campaign where people across Ireland wear their clothes inside out on 21 October. It’s a bold and simple act that sparks conversations about epidermolysis bullosa (EB)—a painful and life-altering condition sometimes called ‘Butterfly Skin’.

Why should I take part?

By turning your clothes inside out, you’re helping turn attention towards families living with EB. Your fundraising will support vital services, provide financial and emotional support for families, and fund pioneering research into pain relief, wound healing, and ultimately, a cure.

When does it happen?

Inside Out takes place on 21 October, but you can host your event or fundraiser any time that week if it works better for your school, club, or workplace.

What happens if I can’t join on 21 October?

No problem! While Inside Out officially takes place on 21 October, you can choose any day that works best for you, your school, club, or workplace. The most important thing is joining in, raising awareness, and fundraising to support families living with EB.

How do I register to get started?

You can register through our official iDonate page. Once you sign up, you’ll receive your fundraising toolkit, ideas, and resources to help you get started.

Do I need to raise certain amount?

There’s no minimum amount. You can raise whatever you can. Every euro makes a real difference for families living with EB.

What kind of fundraising can I do?

Get creative! Here are some ideas:

  • Hold a coffee morning or lunch break at work where everyone wears their clothes inside out.
  • Organise a dress-up or non-uniform day at school.
  • Host a sports challenge or fun run with your clothes inside out.

Share your fundraising page and invite friends, family, and colleagues to support you.

Will I get resources to help me?

Yes! Once you register, you’ll get access to a free fundraising toolkit with posters, social media graphics, and step-by-step ideas to make your event a success.

Can children take part?

Absolutely. Inside Out is easy, fun, and perfect for schools, clubs, and families. It’s a great way to start conversations with young people about empathy and inclusion.

What's the Inside Out tattoo?

As a thank you, when you raise €20 or more, you can request your exclusive Inside Out temporary tattoo. Wear it proudly on the day to show you’re part of the movement.

Can I get more than one Inside Out tattoo if we are a team?

Yes! Tattoos are a special thank you for fundraising, and since they come at a cost, we encourage teams to raise a little extra if you’d like more than one. Here’s the scale:

  • 1 tattoo – raise €20
  • 5 tattoos – raise €75
  • 10 tattoos – raise €150
  • 20 tattoos – raise €200

If your team would like a different number, just let us know—we’ll guide you on the suggested fundraising target.

How do I share my involvement?

Take photos of your Inside Out outfits and post them on social media with #InsideOutEB. You’ll be helping raise awareness and encouraging others to get involved too.

I can't take part on the day, can I still support?

Yes! You can donate directly to the campaign, or share the campaign on your social channels to spread awareness.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

If you need help with your registration or fundraising ideas, reach out to Cheryl at cheryl.gunning@debra.ie. We’d love to hear from you.

How it works

Register on our Inside Out iDonate page and set up your own fundraising page in a few minutes. Once it’s live, pledge your own first donation. It’s a small thing, but it makes a real difference to how others respond when you ask them to give too.

The moment you register, we’ll pop an exciting fundraising pack in the post, with bunting, balloons, temporary tattoos and stickers, plus a toolkit of ideas to help you make the absolute most of your day. Then, on 21 October, wear your clothes inside out and share why on social media with #InsideOutEB, so people see what you’re doing it for.
