Genetic counselling gives you information about how genetic conditions might affect you or your family. Through genetic counselling you may receive accurate information on specific diagnosis, family history, mode of inheritance, reoccurrence risks and family planning.
If you are in search of genetic counselling services this can be accessed through CHI or St James and we are here to offer guidance on how to access this service and provide support throughout the process.
Some couples may wish to undergo fertility treatments like In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) with Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT).
This is a process in which the embryos can be screened for a specific gene mutation for example EB and an embryo diagnosed as being free from EB the gene mutation, can be used for implantation.
We understand that embarking on this path can be daunting and navigating the process may seem challenging. The first step involves scheduling an appointment with the genetics team at CHI or SJH. Our dedicated Family Support Team at Debra is here to support couples throughout their entire journey. We will guide them through the process, providing information, reassurance, and support at every step.
Couples wishing to access this treatment can face significant financial barriers in Ireland. To help address this challenge, we offer an assisted fertility grant in specific cases, allowing couples to access treatment that may otherwise be financially unfeasible.
It is important to note that this support has very specific eligibility criteria and is subject to funding availability. For more information, contact us.
