Emotional toolkit - Debra

Apply for a free emotional toolkit

Our free emotional toolkit helps children and families talk about emotions using simple, creative activities — and you can request one today.

Living with EB can affect your feelings and emotions in all kinds of ways, and it’s not always easy to express what you’re going through.

We’re here to help everyone affected by EB live the best life possible, and that includes providing psychosocial support. Our emotional toolkits are one example of this. They use storytelling, games and colouring to help children and young adults talk about their feelings in ways that feel natural and safe.

What's inside

Each toolkit contains resources chosen by our family support team, including:

  • Feelings cards, an excellent tool for parents. They provide a common language between a child and a parent and help develop a child’s communication, especially around feelings. Each card has a guide on the back so parents can explain what the feeling is and reassure their child that it’s ok to feel the way they do.
  • Calm cards for teens, designed to promote positive mental health for teenagers by helping them bring mindfulness and self-compassion into their daily lives.
  • Recommended reading, including The Invisible String, a beautiful book for any child anticipating attachment or separation difficulties, which explains how even when we’re apart we’re all joined by a magic power called love, and No Worries! Mindful Kids, a practical workbook.
  • You’ll also find professional guidance and self-care ideas for managing things like stress, isolation and uncertainty.

Together, the activities help you acknowledge and accept difficult feelings, explore personal strengths to build self-confidence, and connect as a family by playing and getting creative together.

How to apply

The toolkits are free and simple to use, and contain everything you need to focus on feelings and emotions together.

To apply for yours, email familysupport@debra.ie and we’ll post one out to you. If you’d like to talk anything through, the family support team is always here to help.
